The Future of Documents

Interesting post on Records Management on the Cloud, on FierceContentManagement: Can we control records on the cloud? This topic has been raised quite a few times on this blog -  whether the cloud can be trusted for long-term storage of documents. This post presents various perspectives on the topic with a particular focus on records management, following an interesting panel discussion at the ARMA 09 conference .

Despite its -  undeniable – financial benefit, Records Management on the cloud might not ideal. Besides the usual trust concern, getting access to your records in case of need will not be as easy as from one of your servers. In fact, technology is developing at a faster pace than regulations – so it is a grey area for now, without precedents. So there’s no clear answer, but it’s probably best to stay on the safe side until the dust settles.
